What to do when you feel like your skin has plateaued.

What to do when you feel like your skin has plateaued. People with normal skin types may feel like they hit a plateau more often than those with problematic skin. The reason is simple, when you can see results happening daily it’s easy to know that your skin regimen is working; however, when you don’t see results daily you may start to question whether or not your skincare is still working.

Normal skin tends to have less oil production which causes less problems for the skin. Less problems need less attention and visible results are harder to see. It’s comforting to see a pimple go away or a brown spot fade or totally go away, but when there’s nothing to fixate on you might start to question what is actually happening.

Create a relationship with your skin even when you think it’s not necessary.

As an esthetician I have many different types of clients, but the clients who surprise me the most are the ones with normal skin. These are the lucky people with the beautiful flawless skin due to a normal oil production. However, when the topic of skincare takes place, more often than not, most of them tell me that they do nothing, or they tell me, something like, they use Dove soap. Ugh… So, now they are frustrated because they know nothing about their skin or skincare. Furthermore, imagine their surprise when they look in the mirror and feel like they aged over night.

Lines don’t just appear over night; most importantly, you need to observe and manage your skin. People with nice skin feel they don’t need to do anything, so they don’t. Additionally, people who are maintaining their skin may find it hard to see results daily and give up on their skincare. However, the day will come when they look into the mirror and they won’t recognize the person looking back at them. We call this, time to catch up, time to learn and time to start observing what is going on with your skin.

Maintaining your skin is a very important part of having beautiful healthy skin.

The reason I use the normal skin people in my example is to help you understand what neglect can do to your skin. It is not very often that my acne clients tell me that they are doing nothing to take care of their skin. My point is, it may not always seem obvious, but that doesn’t mean that you stop trying or that you throw in the towel and start again. Maintaining the skin is one of the best ways of having beautiful flawless skin.

Don’t give up on your skincare. If your skin looks good, but you are not seeing new results daily, don’t loose faith. Your skincare is most likely maintaining your skin, that is if you are using professional active products. If you feel like your skincare is no longer working then maybe it’s time to elevate it. Try adding an enzyme based exfoliating scrub.

We love the Turmeric Brightening Paste, which is a professional-grade treatment paste that helps revitalize, brighten, promote skin cell renewal, minimize pore size, and leave a glowing complexion. The self-heating effect gently encourages the pores to open, while minerals and clay clean thoroughly. Turmeric and Niacinamide (Vitamin-B3) provide brightening, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, while helping improve skin texture. Perlite (natural, spherical volcanic rock) combined with Pumpkin and Papaya enzymes gently exfoliate the skin to improve the appearance of fine lines, age spots, freckles, and rough skin. Turmeric Brightening Paste contains natural Zeolite Clay for an additional detoxifying effect.

If you really want to see major improvements in half the time than do 6 glycolic treatments in 3 weeks. That’s two treatments per week. Please keep in mind that you see the final result at the end of the 30 days. So, you will see your first treatment appear after the month is up, but you will see the rest of the treatment for the next three weeks to come. It very exciting and you almost forget why your skin looks so amazing, but that’s the power of really good skincare. Be aware of the work that you are putting into your skin. Understand even if you are only maintaining your skin, it’s better than the alternative of doing nothing.

Give your skin what it needs, when it needs it.

Serums

If you’re not afraid of a little peeling, double up on Vitamin A. Apply all three power serums morning and night. Try to remove your mornings skincare by 6:00 pm. It’s good to remove sunblock as soon as the day has past. Moreover, this is a good time to do your evening skincare routine or wait a couple hours and then do it. There’s nothing wrong with letting your skin breath before you apply your nightly skincare routine. It’s your skin, so it’s your rules.
Pro Tip: Do your complete evening skincare routine early, and then right before bed reapply a little more Vitamin A. I also prefer to do my exfoliating in the morning just in case my skin is shedding.

Just remember, if you’re not being completely diligent about applying your skincare you will not see the full results. Moreover, if you skip certain steps in your skincare routine you will feel like something went wrong. Finally, if you stray from professional products for a cheaper version you will see the difference on your face.

Masking two or three times a week is a great way to elevate your skin. Skin masks are such a great way to help hydrate, heal, revitalize, and promote collagen and elastin.

Azulen Soothing Masque is recommended for all skin types. It is very beneficial for sensitive skin as a decongestive and calming masque. Extracts from St. John’s Blossoms, Arnica Blossoms, and Calendula Blossoms help refine, tone, tighten, and protect the skin’s moisture balance. Sodium PCA provides moisture binding activity. Azulene, Allantoin, and Aloe Vera Gel possess soothing and healing properties. Glycerin, Safflower Oil, and Squalene, protect the skin from moisture loss. Fine milled Kaolin Clay and Zinc Oxide help gently absorb oil on the surface of the skin and refine pores. Bisabolol and d-Panthenol show skin renewal properties and help calm inflammation. Azulen Soothing Masque helps improve skin‘s suppleness, elasticity, tone, firmness, and hydration and has a light creamy consistency. Its light blue color comes from Azulene.

In conclusion, be diligent! Don’t buy into the media and opt for a cheaper version of a product you know is working wonders. Add to your skincare routine, masks, enzymes  and double up on active products. Additionally, listen to the experts, esthetician’s actually work with the skin and usually know what they are talking about. Trial and error and lots of practice makes for perfection.
